Introduction:

 The Department of Psychology, College of Science, was established in 1989 and remains the youngest undergraduate department within Soochow University.  The Department comprises ten full time and twenty part time faculty, currently serving approximately 200 students.  Each faculty member has a specialty in the academic field.

 The Graduate Program of Psychology will commence in the fall of 2001, for the purpose of assisting students with interest in applied psychology to develop their research skills.  Additionally, course design is targeted to provide students with an integrated approach to both psychological and personality development.

Undergraduate Curriculum:

 Undergraduate curriculum includes courses in physiological psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, personality psychology, industrial psychology, clinical psychology, counseling & guidance, research methods & laboratory experimentation, and other related subjects.  The overall curriculum is balanced in focus on both theory and practice, covering both fundamental and methodological topics, sequentially developed in each of the four years of undergraduate work.

Counseling practicum and clinical internship courses are interwoven with academic courses. Students are sent to counseling institutes and hospitals to apply knowledge in real operating environments under course supervision.

 Upon completion, the Department's college graduates should have the capacity to pursue all areas of interest, whether or not continuing with graduate education or seeking workforce experience.

Facilities:

The Department has fully-equipped facilities to provide an excellent student learning environment. These facilities include two experimental laboratories, a social psychology laboratory, a group counseling room and an observation room (with one-sided mirror).  All activity is supported by computers and up to date software, including a computer room with student workstations.
