The Department was established in 1954. Currently, we offer degrees of study in
master's and Ph.D. programs. The undergraduate program is aimed at providing basic
knowledge, whereas the graduate programs devote themselves to the training of economists
with independent research and analytical abilities. With emphasis on theory and practice, the
undergraduate program offers courses in economic theory and methodology, including
management, computer, international trade, and accounting. Graduate programs emphasize
economic research in diversified areas such as international economy, currency theories,
history of economy, and econometrics.
DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING
Tel:886-2-23111531 ext. 2580-2581, Email:acc@mail.scu.edu.tw
To meet the requirements of
national construction, we aim to produce accountants with financial, and business
management backgrounds. The graduate program seeks to cultivate students' skills in
advanced accounting, and financial management, and to produce accounting experts and
professional accounting teachers in order to heighten the overall standards of accounting.
The curriculum design emphasizes theory as well as practice. The core courses are
conducted in small groups with an emphasis on practices. Basic training courses in
economics, financing, and regulations and codes are reinforced. In addition, elective
courses, such as Budget Control, Internal Auditing, Stock Investment Analysis, Study of
Trust, Marketing, and Trading, plus an increasing number of other courses, are offered to
allow students to have ample choices. Different academic advisory groups have been set up
for accounting majors. Seminars and presentations about related topics are constantly
encouraged. Joint accounting and auditing projects between China and Taiwan are also under
way.
DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
Tel:886-2-23111531 ext. 2600-2601, Email:ba@mail.scu.edu.tw
Our goal is to produce managerial personnel that enterprises and government agencies
need. Our curriculum
focuses on statistical methods and integrative learning, equipping students with knowledge
in personnel, marketing, financing, information, as well as production management. Our
graduate program underscores academic research, with full-time faculty and graduate
students as our core. We plan to do research on the international level, stressing
exchange and consultation between faculty and students and to serve society by developing
the latest knowledge in management.
DEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS
Tel:886-2-23111531 ext. 2700-2702, Email:trade@mail.scu.edu.tw
Our educational goal is to produce leading experts in international business and the
monetary system. Our curriculum
planning is based on the integration of theory and practice, including courses in
international trade practices, marketing, financing and banking, and business negotiation.
The case study approach is adopted to sharpen students' abilities to think and analyze as
well as to decide and judge. In addition, students' foreign language training and the use
of the Internet, software, and business databases are also emphasized to enable them to
possess the necessary edge. In addition to our master's degree program set up in Sep.
1996, we emphasis the programs in information application and business automation to meet
the current needs of our country.
DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS MATHEMATICS
Tel:886-2-23111531 ext. 2620-2621, Email:bmath@mail.scu.edu.tw
It is our goal to provide students with extensive knowledge in mathematics statistics,
computer science, and business. The four principal cores of our curriculum are: (1) Actuaries: to support a
complete as well as comprehensive training in actuary. (2) Statistics: to provide students
with such mathematics knowledge as to enable them to be competent in statistic theories as
well as applications. (3) Computer science: to provide students with more practical
courses in computer science. (4) Management: to develop students' potential in management
science and industrial engineering. More than half of the actuaries in Taiwan are
graduates from this department. Continuous growth in faculty and facilities is sought.
Included in our plan, a master's program will be set up to offer students a spanning range
of decision-making skills and/or to prepare students for research careers.
DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER & INFORMATION
SCIENCE
Tel:886-2-23111531 ext. 2800-2801, Email:cis@mail.scu.edu.tw
Unlike our counterparts in other universities, this department is the only one in this
country that belongs to the School of Business. Students, learning in both information and business management
environments, are thus endowed with better career opportunities and choices. The design of
the curriculum focuses not only on basic training in information science but on actual
practices on the management level. Specific electives, such as "System" (e.g.
system software and communication & network) and "Applications" (e.g.
application software, information management, and business) are offered. We seek
cooperation with local private sectors as well as our own alumni. We plan to set up a
master's degree program in 1998. |
