Future Development
平房教室改建工程, Downtown Campus of Soochow
Enhancing Educational Quality

We plan to set up a common curriculum required of all majors, redesign the curriculum of each school, and promote the idea of program studies. We sponsor student associations that are cultural, or academic, as well as providing a service. We will continue the tradition of strengthening students' Chinese and English language abilities in addition to stressing the importance of a liberal education.

Enriching Research Environment

We encourage inter-school as well as interdepartmental cooperation and integrative research. We plan to establish Soochow University Press, and to publish textbooks and a series of books on special interests.

Expanding Academic Areas

It is our goal to seek cooperation with Academica Sinica, the National Palace Museum, other universities, and government agencies, as well as private enterprises through joint programs. We also intend to strengthen our ties with Suzhou University on the Mainland.

Strengthening Administration and Facilities

The administration is constantly adjusting to the needs of the rapid development of the University. For example, we intend to establish a Recruiting Section responsible for enrolling students into the university and a Dorm Service Section serving the students' needs. We have a web site on the Internet allowing people access to course outlines of each department. We have also set up a search system on the WWW for faculty papers. Students can enroll in a course by telephone or computer net.

Expanding Campus Space and Establishment of Multipurpose Classroom Buildings

A multi-purpose building complex, containing a gym, study center, parking lot, etc., is needed on the downtown campus. In between the two campuses there are scenic spots and cultural attractions as well as political and economic centers that can contribute to the cultural and academic atmosphere of Soochow University. For example the National Concert Hall, the National Opera House, the National Library, the Municipal Fine Arts Museum, the National Palace Museum, the Presidential Office, the Executive Yuan, the Judicial Yuan, the Control Yuan, ... etc., are located within the area of both the main and downtown campuses.
