The School of Law at Soochow University has been providing legal education for almost
a century. We believe that an adequate number of experts in law, with precise thinking and
keen judgement, lay the foundation for overall justice and a healthy legal system. Our
academic goals are:
- Legal education should be expanded beyond undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Study of a foreign language is required. The law curriculum covers three major areas:
public law, civil and commercial law, and international law.
- A career planning committee has been established to help students with their job
selection.
- Social services such as a "Legal Service Society" and "seed Spreading
Club for Law" are provided.
- Students are provided with field tours.
- Setting up joint academic research programs with China as well as other countries and
publishing the Journal of Law and other legal books in Chinese and English.

The Department of
Law, the only department under the School of Law, is aimed at producing professionals in
law. Our graduate programs are devoted to law studies and law instruction. The curriculum, designed according to
the educational philosophy of the School of Law, focuses on legal practice and comparative
law, with emphasis on essential legal knowledge as well as international law. Both the
master's and doctoral programs stress academic research. We have Master's A and Master's B
programs, admitting students with and without backgrounds in law, respectively. We have by
far the best faculty in Taiwan. With diversity as our educational principle, we hope to
become one of the best legal education institutions in the world.
