It helps students develop creative and research skills as well as independent thinking and judgment.   The School of Foreign Languages and Cultures seeks to enable the students to have a grasp of language skills and a well-informed understanding of world cultures. The goal is to develop in the students a broad outlook through diversified or parallel approaches. In addition, the School offers courses in foreign languages available to all students of the University, providing them with the opportunity to learn languages and have a sound understanding of foreign cultures.   In the early history of the school, in Mainland China, Soochow University offered various major and minor subjects, and the latter included already education. In Taiwan, after the government approved teachers education programs, the school set up a secondary school teachers education program in the 1996-1997 academic year, the first campus-wide program for students of the whole University. .....
