Aims of Education
The School of Arts & Social Sciences aims to instruct
students to become pillars of society with expertise
and broad vision in the areas of the liberal and fine
arts and social sciences. The School has the following
key objectives: moral and intellectual development of
students, equal emphasis on literary form and content,
and attracting talents and foster talents through education.
It helps students develop creative and research skills
as well as independent thinking and judgment. The School
educates students to have a broad vision as well as
understanding and appreciation of society and cultures,
in the hope that they will learn to respect others,
overcoming and even eliminating barriers. The students
are expected to practice in their life what they have
learned and contribute their academic achievements to
society. In this way, we hope to develop committed and
energetic future leaders well qualified with professional
skills.
Characteristics of Curriculum
and Instruction
The School's curriculum puts special emphasis on the
inclusion of basis courses into its academic programs,
so as to help lay a good foundation for students. Balance
of theory and practice as well as the training in research
skills are also emphasized. Students in the School are
required to take either the course Logic or Introduction
to Philosophy once during the undergraduate years. The
objective is for students to develop active learning
and independent research skills. In the area of teaching
and resources, in addition to recruiting outstanding
faculty members and offering research rooms and facilities,
the School also conducts inter-departmental seminars
to promote research and learning.
