Teacher Education Program

　　In the early history of the school, in Mainland China, Soochow University offered various major and minor subjects, and the latter included already education. In Taiwan, after the government approved teachers education programs, the school set up a secondary school teachers education program in the 1996-1997 academic year, the first campus-wide program for students of the whole University.

　　Then, to correspond to the nine-year consecutive curriculum, starting with the academic year 2002-2003, the University also establishes a primary school teachers education program to let Soochow students also become outstanding primary school teachers.
From the beginning of the academic year 2004-2005, this program given by the Teacher Education Center of the University.

Curriculum Design and Features
　　The curriculum regarding education profession comprises three categories of courses, the basics, the method and the practice. After a year of instruction in basics and method, students can go on to the next step of studying instructional materials and methods in different fields as well as practicum. As for elective courses, these are grouped and related to education profession. The purpose of the curriculum is to teach the students various teaching skills, conduct training in leadership, counseling and special education, and develop their analytical and data collection abilities.

Regulations for Taking the Program and for the Teaching Internship
1. Students taking the course to be middle school teachers, after they have taken and completed at least 28 credits in education and further credits in the field related to the subject they plan to teach, can receive the “Soochow University Middle School Teacher Education Course Certificate ,” and after six months of teacher internship, if they successfully pass the qualifying examination, they can receive the “Teacher Diploma.”

2. Students taking the course to be elementary school teachers, after they have taken and completed at least 41 credits in education, can receive the “Certificate of Soochow University Elementary School Teacher Education Course Certificate, ” and after six months of teacher internship, if they successfully pass the qualifying examination, they can receive the “Teacher Diploma.”
