http://www2.scu.edu.tw/artsco/paa/
Research is conducted
first of all by the study of the theories of art and
that of esthetics. Concerning the theory of art, the
main areas of studies are writing systems (calligraphy),
graphic representation, and sound, and concerning esthetic
theory, the philosophy of esthetics.
Suzhou
Research Project
The main research areas
are the cultural developments in and around Suzhou city
(in China) and how academic and cultural exchanges can
take place between Suzhou and Taiwan (for example, in
cultural matters, in the performance of the Kun style
Chinese operas) and how Taiwan business enterprises
operate in China.
Research Project on the Collection of Books Ancient
and Present
This research center
works in cooperation with the National Palace Museum
to create a digital retrieval system for the Collection
of Books Ancient and Present, containing about 170 million
characters and over 10,000 pictures or illustrations,
the index of which lists about six thousand book titles.
It is by far the largest collection of books existing
in China. Foreign scholars generally call it the Kang
Xi Encyclopedia. The first phase of the research is
already completed: it has produced the Palace Museum-Soochow
University Search Engine for the Collection of Books
Ancient and Present, a database with easy search program
covering the complete text of the Collection.
