  Soochow's faculty and students actively participate in all kinds of social work, offering professional information and practical help as a feedback to society.

   The social services include these kinds:
  1. support elementary and secondary schools in
  teaching and counseling

   2. organize various kinds of learning activities for elementary and secondary school students

  3. provide professional counseling service

  4. support communities by promoting arts study and appreciation

  5. when school is in recess, groups of students give performances and provide social service
  all over the island

  The Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Library on the Waishuanghsi Campus is a nine-story building. Together with its branch library on the Downtown Campus, the two libraries have a combined floor space of 10,500 square meters. The two libraries have spacious stack areas sections for works in Chinese and Western languages, and then reading, reference, periodical, and non-print material sections.   The Center supports the required English Listening and Comprehension course and the elective Advanced English Listening and Speaking Practice course, in addition to running the language practice labs and audio-visual facilities. The combined hardware on both campuses camprises ten language labs, two self-access learning labs, one projection room, and two recording rooms. The self-access learning labs are small audio-visual libraries for all faculty and students for checking out audio or video tapes or CDs to practice foreign languages. .....

  The Center has three sections, the central computing system, the network maintenance section and the administration support section. The Center is responsible for the planning and development of computing for the school administrative system. It maintains nine computer classrooms with a total of 537 computers. The classrooms are for both teaching and practice purposes, open to students. The Downtown Campus has set up two computer classrooms with tele-conference facilities, supporting multimedia Internet services. .....

  The goal of Soochow’s Extension School is to serve society by providing instruction to all those who want to acquire academic learning or professional skills. A variety of in-depth courses are offered to provide a channel for learning to the general public interested in continuing education.   To share information and experience, the University signed an educational cooperation agreement with Da Chi Senior High School in March 1999. The cooperation involves matters related to curriculum, pedagogy, student counseling, interchange of hardware and software, as well as research projects. This is the first time in this country that a local university has signed an educational cooperation agreement with a senior high school. The Bureau of Education of Taipei City Government has strongly praised this agreement as the model of inter-school cooperation. .....
