Currently the University
has four dormitory buildings on and a new one off its
campuses. In the academic year 2004-2005, 1,433 students
lived on campus, and 3,333 students lived in rented
rooms or apartments off campus. These students amount
to 28.6% of all students. In the academic year 1997-1998,
the University set up the Student Housing Division,
responsible for the housing affairs of students living
either on or off campus.
Living in a dormitory is a
good way to experience living with a group of people.
The school's counseling service for boarders in dormitories
focuses on guidance regarding how to live in a dormitory,
how to be independent and how to exercise self-discipline;
it also instructs them how to maintain dormitory security.
To students living in rented apartments off campus,
the school offers timely, complete and professional
room or apartment renting information. In the academic
year 2000-2001, to provide convenient services to students,
the room-renting database and computerized search system
was set up at http://www.SU.edu.tw/housing. The Housing
Office publishes brochures concerning the safety when
renting an apartment off campus. Legal counseling on
room or apartment renting affairs is also available
to help solve disputes concerning renting affairs. In
the near future, the University will combine city government
and private resources to find large buildings off campus
that can satisfy students' housing needs, in order to
help relieve the lack of space on campus.
