Currently the University has
181student clubs and associations, which can be divided
into six types: general, arts, academic, athletic, social
service and socializing. Extracurricular activities
focus on the ethical awareness, interpersonal skills
and citizens’ duties. The activities are colorful and
diversified.
The elective courses “Club
and Association Management and Development” and “Social
Service Studies” are offered to all the students of
the University. The island-wide workshops “College Student
Associations Guiding Middle and Elementary School Student
Associations” and “Club and Association Management—Goals
and Practice” are designed to work out the theoretical
framework of being a student and doing social group
guidance. Also, in order to train cadres, four big study
camps are organized every year, the Club Leaders Study
Camp, the Public Relations Workers Study Camp, the Recreational
Activity Leaders Study Camp, and the Leadership Ability
Study Camp.
Ample subsidies are provided
for club and association activities. Clubs and associations
hold meetings and organize expositions to show the results
of their activities. By the use of the Soochow Passport
for the Group-life Education, the first of this kind
in the country, computerized data of the students’ extracurricular
activities are collected and are available when they
apply for advanced studies or employment in the future.
