The Physics Department of Soochow University was re-established in 1970 in Taiwan. Each year, about 55 students who wish majoring in physics are admitted to our Department. And now, we have eleven full-time and three part-time faculty members . And they all participate actively in various research fields .  

In our undergraduate program, we have five well-equipped teaching laboratories. And each laboratory is managed by one faculty member and assisted by one teaching assistant. Students are required to study experimental physics in at least one laboratory each year. The facilities of these laboratories have been improved continuously to meet with the quality of teaching. We put particular emphasis on physics being an exact science full of natural phenomena. Students learn not only the fundamental knowledge of physics and the application of physics to related fields but also the essence of physics such that they can build up their potentials in pursuing either advanced degrees or careers in a wide variety of related areas. 

It has been a tradition and also implemented in our course design that our teaching are aiming at stimulating students with critical thinking and encouraging them to have hands-on experience. These basic training in physics has long lasting effects on our physics graduates. Over the thirty year, this department has always being proud of her many alumni who all have outstanding achievements in education, research and industry.

With such accomplishment, this department continues to devote herself to the excellence of teaching and research so that the students can have the best academic environment.
