摘要

 

 

 羅素提出批判儒家孝道思想,指出孝道和家族力量在儒家倫理當中或許是最弱的一點,在儒家倫理中只有這一點是嚴重的違反常識。家族意識的影響違反了公益精神,而賦予老人權力則會加強專制的舊習。這番言論引起本論文探討中西方對於孝道不同見解的動機。首先,本論文嘗試以三位當代西方學者,他們所認知的親子關係角度來切入問題的核心,其次根據先秦儒家的孝道來說明與其不同之處,最後以回應羅素的方式作為本論文的結尾。

Abstract

 

 

Russell criticized Confucianism in that filial piety, and the strength of the family generally, are perhaps the weakest point in Confucian ethics, the only point where the system departs seriously from common sense. Family feeling has militated against public spirit, and the authority of the old has increased the tyranny of ancient custom. His criticism gives rise to the motive of the study. This thesis examines Confucian view and western views of filial piety and, firstly, focuses on discussing three contemporary Western philosophers’theories of filial piety, and, then, interprets Confucian filial piety in a comparative perspective. At the end, this thesis provides a way to respond to Russell’s criticism.
